This was certainly a beautiful and amazing trip to the mind of an autistic boy. I've always like seeing things from different points of view and perspectives, and Naoki really helped me do that, what he showed me was nothing less than breathtaking. I've never actually met anyone with autism but now I'm kind of hoping I will. Everybody who has any kind of relationship with an autistic person SHOULD read this book.
Quotes from the book that I absolutely loved:
"True compassion is about not bruising the other person's self-respect."
"Please don't judge us from the outside only. I don't know why we can't talk properly. But it's not that we won't talk - it's that we can't talk and we're suffering because of it."
"A person who’s looking at a mountain far away doesn't notice the prettiness of a dandelion in front of them. A person who's looking at a dandelion in front of them doesn't see the beauty of a mountain far away."
"When I jump, I feel lighter, and I think the reason my body is drawn skywards is that the motion makes me want to change into a bird and fly off to some faraway place."
"For people with autism, living itself is a battle."
"I wrote this story in the hope that it will help you to understand how painful it is when you can't express yourself to the people you love."
"And when the light of hope shines on all this world, then our future will be connected with your future. That’s what I want, above all."
