Re-reading this after reading As You Wish and watching the movie again, and though it’s only been about four years since I first read it, I have much the same feelings about it: it’s not as good as the movie. The book is good, for sure, but the movie has so much more of whatever it is that makes The Princess Bride awesome and memorable and lasting. I did love all the backstory pieces, though! I’m glad for that at least. But yes, if you ask me, the movie is much better and does a good job of not making every character besides Westley and Rugen look like idiots. But that’s just my opinion, of course.
