The Prefect

Tom Dreyfus is a Prefect, a policeman of sorts, and one of the best. His force is Panoply, and his beat is the Glitter Band, the ten thousand habitats in orbit around the planet Yellowstone. A murderous attack on one of them looks like an open-and-shut case until Dreyfus starts turning over stones that powerful people would rather he left alone. What he finds is a covert takeover of the whole Band, run by a figure called Aurora who may once have been human and certainly is not now.
