It started very promising and full of ideas, it created a certain occult-steampunk atmosphere, it flirted with postmodernism (there were strong echoes of Milorad Pavic's books), BUT, after a while the impression was rather dulled, since I couldn't connect with most of the characters, who seemed flat and distanced from any genuine passion -or even emotion. Clever and dreamy are very nice qualities, albeit they are not the ones that make a book great.

Not something I would have picked up but it was nice. Read for a reddit bookclub. The imagination was very interesting, though at times it was tedious.

I LOVED this book. I know that no matter what I write, my review just won't do it justice. This is definitely on my list of favorites!

it's worth a 4 stars and a half, it is magical, enchanting,has a very Tim Brutonesque atmosphere (mainly due to the color theme and profusion of black, white, grey and red) What I also appreciated is that it's a very unexpected story, you can never guess what is going to happen next, it is always surprising to see where the imagination of the writer leads the story. It is intricate, original, unique, dream-like... I didn't want to leave The Night Circus so fast!
