The Mysteries

In this illustrated fable for adults, an ancient kingdom besieged by inexplicable disasters dispatches knights to hunt down the cause. Years pass before a single battered knight returns with a captured "Mystery" — the first of many that, once studied and explained away, convince the kingdom's people they have finally bent the world to their understanding.

Bill Watterson, creator of Calvin and Hobbes, and caricaturist John Kascht spent years developing the book's images together in a deliberately unconventional collaboration, producing a quiet, unsettling meditation on the limits of human knowledge and control.
