Synopsis

In 1913, a young man hiking through the French Alps runs out of water in a desolate, treeless valley. He is saved by Elzéard Bouffier, a shepherd who has spent decades quietly planting trees and restoring the land. The story follows the narrator's return to the valley over the next several decades, each time finding the landscape transformed by Bouffier's patient work, until the once-barren land becomes a lush forest. A timeless parable about the power of one person's quiet dedication to the natural world.
