Synopsis

The Magnificent Ambersons is a sprawling multi-generational saga set in a fictionalized Indianapolis, tracing the decline of a once-mighty aristocratic family as the American Gilded Age gives way to the industrial age. As the Amberson fortune withers and the city modernizes around them, the spoiled heir George Amberson Minafer must confront his own arrogance and the consequences of his choices. The novel is a sweeping meditation on the passage of time, the collision of old and new money, and the cost of clinging to a world that no longer exists.
