The Lodge
The Lodge sits on the edge of a cliff, glass-fronted, expensive, surrounded by snow. The Wilson family have booked it for a holiday, which on paper is a generous idea and in practice puts Danni, the new wife, and Fiona, the ex-wife, under the same roof for a week with the children and everyone's existing grievances.
Sue Watson lets the situation do the work for a while: the small territorial exchanges, the things said in front of the children, the version of events each woman has been given about the other.
Then the snow comes down properly, the road goes, and the family is alone in a house made largely of windows with nowhere to walk out to. The tagline the publisher put on it is accurate about where it ends up going.
