I regret the money I spent on this.
One chapter was too much for me—this books is, for lack of a better word, immature. It reads like it was written by a preteen who just discovered sex jokes and has decided he needs to make as many as possible as often as possible. The characters are annoying, stereotypical, and borderline offensive. I hated Gary on sight, and Sam followed shortly after.
And I LOVE young adult books. I love fantasy, and queer books. I love TJ Klune’s own The House in the Cerulean Sea! So it makes NO SENSE to me that he also wrote this. It reads not like a first novel from an adult man, but a first attempt at a draft from a teenager.
Don’t waste your time. If sex jokes, bestiality jokes, and gay stereotypes that died ten years ago are your thing, go for it I guess. Otherwise, save yourself the time and money.
