Virginia Woolf (1882–1941) was an English writer and one of the most influential modernist authors of the twentieth century. Born Adeline Virginia Stephen in London, she pioneered stream-of-consciousness narration in novels including Mrs Dalloway, To the Lighthouse, and The Waves, and wrote the landmark feminist essay A Room of One's Own.
