I really tried. I loved it in the beginning — I have a history of liking books featuring girls disguised as boys, not to mention magic — but I started to feel uncomfortable around 35%.
As I'm sure is obvious, I'm very uncomfortable with overt sexual situations in books. References, as long as they're not too many or too detailed, are fine. But this girl? Talked about it way too much after that point. Oh, not to mention the near-rape scene, which happens literally a page before I gave up.
I understand that this doesn't bother other people the same way it does me, but if you're similar to me at all, good luck.
Not to mention I hated the love interest, whose name I can't recall. He was rude, he was intimidating, he was demanding. Why exactly is Charlie interested in him? Besides the fact that he's hot, I mean.
Basically, this book was not for me. The writing is just fine, and the other plot lines (behind the romance and let's-see-how-long-it-takes-to-realize-Charlie's-a-girl) are good! If you are fine with the things I hated, go ahead and read it!
