Synopsis

Almost three years after her husband Spencer was killed by a drunk driver, Anna is still trapped in grief. She goes through the motions of living, but anything that threatens to make her feel alive again fills her instead with guilt. On New Year's Eve, unable to bear the loneliness, she calls Spencer's old mobile number just to hear his recorded voice one more time — and a stranger answers.

Brody, who has since been given Spencer's old number, is a man carrying his own losses on a remote sheep farm far from Anna's world. Neither of them expects anything from that first accidental call, but they keep talking, and over a series of late-night conversations a fragile, genuine connection forms between two people who each understand what the other is going through.

Fiona Lucas's tender, bittersweet novel is a story about grief and the slow, frightening work of opening yourself back up to life — a moving contemporary romance about second chances, the people who help us heal, and the courage it takes to love again.
