Synopsis

The Last Boy in Auschwitz is a 2023 Holocaust memoir by survivor Moshe 'Mjetek' Bomberg, recounting his true story of survival as a young man through the Nazi occupation of Poland and the concentration camp system.

Beginning with Zionist underground resistance in occupied Warsaw in 1944, the narrative follows Bomberg through the Warsaw Ghetto and multiple camps to Auschwitz, where he discovers that his family has been annihilated. He documents the daily struggle to stay alive, his liberation by the advancing Soviet army, and the difficult postwar years — serving in the Polish Security Service, being diverted to a British detention camp on Cyprus, and at last settling in Israel in 1949.

Written as first-person testimony, the book joins the essential literature of Holocaust remembrance, bearing witness to atrocity while tracing one survivor's path toward rebuilding a life.
