She has made a life of sorts inside the palace — a gifted healer, a reluctant symbol to her father's people, a prisoner in all but name — and she has learned to trade in favors and silence to survive. But the anniversary of a new century is approaching, and with it the city's fragile peace is about to be tested.\n\nFar from the walls, an exiled prince walks the desert he was banished to, only to be pulled back toward the home that cast him out. Beyond the mountains, an old soldier drills a new army for a mistress with her own designs on the brass city. As these paths bend back toward Daevabad, loyalties formed in the first book are strained past breaking, and choices made in the name of family, faith, or love begin to look like the seeds of war.\n\nThe second volume of the Daevabad Trilogy deepens S. A. Chakraborty's world of djinn tribes and buried history, moving among three vivid points of view as ambition, grief, and long-nursed grievances gather toward a reckoning. Someone out there is plotting a revenge to conquer Daevabad again from the Qahtani while our tough Nahri having her mind torn in between surviving Ghassan's orders, trusting her husband and having her dream of rebuilding the Nahid hospital when Daevabad was soaring with crime and bad economy. ⁣\n⁣\nA bit slow at the beginning but getting intense when Navasatem (a daeva festival) is approaching. No idea for how many times I was nervous for Nahri and Alizayd for always getting into troubles. I fancy Nahri's attitude and Alizayd for still keeping his stance about the shafit. \n⁣\nLove how 'crisp' and gripping the author crafted the relationship between the Qahtani siblings-- those bickering and sarcastic remarks, I feel bad for our go-between Zaynab though. More action and political mess, corruption (money changes people as what Alizayd said) and somehow I am so invested with Manizheh scheme, the revelation about Jamshid (I hope he's okay) also of Alizayd and the Marid (his magic!). I do feel bad for Ghassan but he deserves it after all. ⁣\n⁣\nStill an immersive and remarkable setting (thanks for Daevabad City map!) to me, superb characterization and the epilogue left me thrilled for Nahri and Alizayd next adventure.
