I was expecting so much more from this book, all I remember from it is that Chinese mothers are bossy and Chinese daughters are misunderstood brats, and I have Amy Tan to blame for making me see only this stereotypical image. Maybe the fact that I'm not Chinese prevented it from grasping the subtility of these narratives. The book is straining, for every good story, you get 3 boring repetitive ones, I was waiting to be sucked into this book, instead I spent my time being angry at the mothers and bored with the daughters.
