I still kind of enjoyed it, but I couldn’t turn a blind eye to the many issues of this book.
The first third was boring. It didn’t feel like reading a thriller.
Enzo and Millie are 12 years older in this book. I thought years were supposed to add wisdom, but these two only got stupider and more naive. Millie especially was aggravating. As someone who has spent a decade in jail, killed people, is supposed to be a badass, how oblivious can you be? And why was she such a pushover? Why did she just watch her next door neighbour continuously flirt with her husband and not say anything? It just pissed me off. The lack of communication between them was abhorring. I hate when books take everything that characterises a protagonist and just throw it out the window for the sake of a plot. These two are supposed to be soulmates, yet they failed to share very important things with each other. Particularly Enzo.
How is the name Ada short for Antonia????????
Also, I hope I never have to read the term « cul-de-sac » every again in my life. My God was it overused in this book.
The plot twist was just unsatisfactory and the epilogue underwhelming.
Freida should’ve stopped at #2, maybe even #1.
