This one was such a fun romp! I have been reading The House in the Cerulean Sea slowly over the past week. It always left me in good spirits so, I chose to handle it like a delicious treat, to be stretched as much as possible, only reading it for an hour before going to bed.
It's the kind of book that, if judged by fantasy standards, isn't much to look at. But it touches meaningful themes, and its humor, charm, and LGBTQ characters give it a novel edge that kept me hooked. It was impossible not to fall in love with its unique and flawed characters and its laugh-out-loud moments cheered me up to no end.
In the beginning, its light-hearted absurdity with a bit of a punch reminded me of Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams's style, which surprised me. It seems T.J. Klune's writing has become even better. I can't wait to read more of his books.
