The hike

Ben, an ordinary suburban husband and father, arrives at a rural Pennsylvania inn for a work trip and steps out for a quick walk on a wooded trail before dinner. He never makes it back. The path won't let him leave, and a disembodied voice warns that if he strays from it he will die—but that if he follows it, he might someday find his way home to his family.

What follows is a surreal, headlong odyssey through an impossible world of man-eating giants, talking animals, two moons and death clouds, in search of the mysterious 'Producer' who controls the path. Drew Magary's The Hike turns the fairy-tale quest inside out—profane, funny, and genuinely frightening by turns—building to a Twilight Zone twist that recasts everything that came before.
