Synopsis

When saints turn away, devils must do god's work. Mother Beckert, a disgraced Inquisitor, has one chance at redemption: root out the heresy festering in the crumbling city of Zeitz — even if the only tools she has are heretics themselves.

Her Chapel of the Holy Expediency is a ramshackle band of the damned: an insatiable werewolf, a depressed necromancer, and a beggar afflicted by visions. What they dig up in Zeitz runs deeper than any of them bargained for, and the nobleman Hugo von Klotz has designs of his own on the witch hunt.

The Heretics is the second book in The Devils, Joe Abercrombie's grimdark historical fantasy series.
