Ok. I enjoyed The Royal We. I wanted to like this one as well, but....it was not in the cards.
First of all, I felt like there were so many places in the plot that were just....skipped. One minute Bex and Nick are fighting, then la-di-da we skip some time (that is not written about in the book) and they're fine. Nick is not ready to be around Freddie, some time passes that we don't read about, and here we are again - they're suddenly good. It felt like the authors just wanted to put so much plot in here that they didn't have time to really hash through some of the harder points.
I was also annoyed with their witty banter when they weren't happy with one another. C'mon, when I'm mad at my spouse I'm not bantering. Frankly you're lucky if I'm not scowling.
And honestly - they did poor Freddie dirty. Why doesn't he get a happy ending? Also, it did NOT appear in the first book that he was so crazy madly head over heels for Bex yet in this book he says she was his one great love?
The Georgina plot...was that even necessary? What did that add to the book except to parallel the story which made it significantly less believable because, really, would this actually happen similarly, twice, in the same family?
And WHY wasn't Nick attending all those appointments with Bex?!?! Is that not what you do when your spouse is going through all that!?
There was just...so much in here that felt like it was grabbing for straws in some areas and places where some really great character development could have been done were just skipped over.
