Synopsis

Muriel McAuley has lived her whole life in the tiny Scottish fishing village of Witchaven, and she means to die there too. But when an overseas property developer moves to evict the villagers and level Witchaven in the name of progress, the community she loves seems doomed, its history about to be paved over.

Then a strange fog rolls in off the sea. The locals call it the Haar, and this one is not natural. To some it seems to offer a kind of redemption; to others it brings only madness, transformation, and death. As the mist takes hold of Witchaven and its would-be destroyers, Muriel finds herself at the center of something ancient and merciless that has woken to answer the village's ruin.

David Sodergren's The Haar is a gore-soaked folk-horror fairy tale from the author of Maggie's Grave, blending tender, unexpected romance with visceral body horror. It is a defiant story about aging, home, and the price of vengeance, aimed squarely at readers who like their horror both heartfelt and extreme.
