Synopsis
Drawing on extensive interviews and private letters, this biography chronicles the life and death of Robert Ames, one of America's most influential intelligence officers in the Middle East. Ames was known for his unique ability to forge deep connections with Arab intelligence figures, notably Yasir Arafat's chief, Ali Hassan Salameh. Their deepening relationship held the potential for lasting peace, but both men were tragically killed by assassins, leading America's relations with the Arab world down a path that culminated in 9/11.
