The Gesta Guillelmi of William of Poitiers

William of Poitiers, a former knight and chaplain to William the Conqueror, provides a firsthand account of the pivotal events of 1066-7. His unfinished biography, 'The Gesta Guillelmi,' offers a detailed look at William's campaigns in Normandy, the meticulous preparations for the invasion of England, the Battle of Hastings, and the establishment of Norman power. This edition, featuring a complete English translation of the Latin text, along with a historical introduction and detailed notes, is an invaluable resource for understanding eleventh-century military tactics and the Norman Conquest.
