The Falconer: Book One of the Falconer Trilogy
Lady Aileana Kameron leads a double life in Victorian Edinburgh. By day she is the only daughter of the Marquess of Douglas, expected to make a good match and keep to the drawing room. By night she hunts the fae who killed her mother a year earlier, tracking them through the city with weapons of her own making.
Aileana learns she is a Falconer, the last of a line of women born to sense and kill fae. Her blood is one of the few things keeping a host of monsters sealed beneath Edinburgh. When the creatures she has spent a year killing start hunting her instead, she allies with Kiaran MacKay, a fae assassin with reasons of his own for keeping her alive.
Together they trace a plan by an Unseelie faction to break the seal and loose every fae in the city on its people. It forces Aileana to weigh saving Edinburgh against the revenge she has spent a year chasing.
The novel pairs Victorian manners with a steampunk arsenal, Aileana's inventions sitting alongside ballgowns and drawing-room etiquette. It is the first novel of the Falconer trilogy, and it ends with Aileana's fight for the city only beginning.
