Synopsis
Everyone in Night Vale knows the Faceless Old Woman Who Secretly Lives in Your Home. Nobody has asked her how she got there.
She is telling Craig, in the second person, at length, while she rearranges his belongings. Her story begins in the Mediterranean in the early nineteenth century: a childhood in a smuggler's household, a betrayal, a shipwreck, an orphanage, and a plan for revenge that outlives everyone it was aimed at. By the time she reaches Night Vale she has been many things and is no longer quite any of them.
The third Welcome to Night Vale novel from Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor. It works as a standalone: an origin story told as a historical adventure, with the podcast's deadpan surrealism intact and rather more heart than the premise promises.
