Synopsis

An American mining engineer in Peru stumbles upon a hidden valley, a lost world inhabited by an ancient, advanced civilization and strange, dangerous creatures. He finds himself entangled in a conflict between two powerful beings, one a benevolent goddess and the other a malevolent entity known as the Face in the Abyss. He must navigate this perilous new reality to survive and uncover the secrets of this forgotten land.

Abraham Grace Merritt was born in Beverly, New Jersey. In 1894, he moved with his family to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He worked to become a lawyer, but instead became a journalist. In 1912 he became assistant editor of The American Weekly until 1937, when he became its editor. He also wrote fiction, including eight novels.
