I had been wanting to read this since it came out, but didn't get to it until now, so I was excited to dive into it. First of all, it is not a bad book in the least. It has a compelling story, and there are two twists I DID NOT SEE COMING, but other than that, I was slightly let down. For all the buildup about whether or not Jack was guilty, it all came out in a tumble, like the ending of a Scooby-Doo episode. All of the flashback to how terrible Olivia was to Jack made her pretty unlikable at the beginning, and while she does have her moments, generally she remains unlikable. In fact, on a whole, the entire cast of characters in the book is unlikable, including Jack. TBH, it all just felt like an episode of Law & Order that you watch once, say hmm, ok, and then start watching something else.

I'm not giving up on Alafair Burke though. I like the style of writing and the twists were great and unexpected.
