The Ersatz Elevator
The Baudelaire orphans are sent to live in a massive penthouse apartment on 667 Dark Avenue, where fashion is everything and the elevator is strictly off-limits. While their new guardian is obsessed with what is 'in' and 'out,' the children must navigate a dark staircase and a series of strange clues to find their kidnapped friends. Count Olaf is never far behind, and his latest scheme involves a hidden passageway and a very suspicious auction.
This is the sixth book in A Series of Unfortunate Events, and while each installment presents a new adventure, the overarching narrative and character development are best appreciated by reading the books sequentially.
