The Enormous Potato

A farmer plants a single potato eye that grows into an enormous potato — so enormous that when harvest time comes, he can't budge it alone. He calls his wife, who calls their daughter, who calls the dog, then the cat, and finally the tiniest helper of all, the mouse, whose small extra pull is exactly what's needed to finally free the giant potato from the ground.

Once it's out, there's more than enough for the whole village to share in a joyful feast. Aubrey Davis's cumulative folktale, in the tradition of "The Enormous Turnip," celebrates teamwork and the idea that even the smallest contribution can make the difference.
