Synopsis

In the quiet village of Prior's Umborne, a series of poison-pen letters disrupts the peace, leaving residents to wonder who among them is responsible. When the arrogant financier Sir Archibald Blick is found dead at the bottom of the dreadful hollow, detective Nigel Strangeways is called in to investigate. He must uncover the truth behind the letters and the murder, navigating a web of secrets among the villagers.

>Poet Laureate Cecil Day-Lewis was born in County Laois, Ireland, in 1904. After his mother died in 1906, he was brought up in London by his clergyman father, spending summer holidays with relatives in Wexford.
