Richard Preston (born August 5, 1954, in Cambridge, Massachusetts) is an American writer, best known for nonfiction books on infectious disease and bioterrorism, including "The Hot Zone" (1994), "The Cobra Event" (1997) and "The Demon in the Freezer" (2002). A contributor to The New Yorker since 1985, he also completed Michael Crichton's unfinished novel "Micro" (2011) from Crichton's notes after Crichton's death.
