Frequently asked questions

  • Is The Children of Green Knowe part of a series?

This book is the first in a series of six books centered around the ancient house of Green Knowe and its inhabitants across different time periods. While each book can be enjoyed independently, reading them in order provides a richer understanding of the house's history and its recurring themes.

  • Is there a film adaptation of The Children of Green Knowe?

The book was adapted into a BBC miniseries titled "The Children of Green Knowe" in 1986. It also inspired a feature film called "From Time to Time" released in 2009, which takes significant liberties with the original story.

  • What inspired the setting of Green Knowe?

The author, Lucy M. Boston, based the fictional Green Knowe house on her own 12th-century manor house, The Manor, in Hemingford Grey, Cambridgeshire, England. Readers can visit the real house, which is open to the public, and see many of the features described in the book.
