Synopsis

A mysterious cask arrives on the London docks, only to spill its shocking contents: a wealth of gold and a human hand. Before authorities can investigate further, the cask vanishes without a trace. Inspector Burnley of Scotland Yard must navigate a maze of deception to identify the victim and find her killer.

Freeman Wills Crofts was born in Dublin, the son of a deceased Army Medical Service surgeon-lieutenant. His mother re-married Jonathan Harding, the Vicar of Gilford, and Crofts spent his childhood in the Gilford vicarage. He attended Methodist College and Campbell College in Belfast.
