Synopsis

A Tokyo taxi driver navigates his night shifts, haunted by nihilistic thoughts and fantasies of suicide. When his estranged father attempts to reconnect, a flood of traumatic childhood memories resurfaces. The driver must confront his violent past and grim present, questioning if some lives are beyond redemption.

Fuminori Nakamura (中村文則) is a Japanese novelist born September 2, 1977, in Aichi Prefecture. He graduated from Fukushima University in 2000 with a degree in public administration. His debut novel, The Gun, won the Shinchō Prize for New Writers in 2002; he won the Noma Literary Prize in 2004 for Shakō and the Akutagawa Prize in 2005 for The Boy in the Earth.
