Synopsis

Jet Owens hears the deathwatch beetle in the library at dawn. She has seven days left to live. Her death draws the rest of the family together: her sister Franny, her brother Vincent, her niece Sally, and Sally's daughters Kylie and Antonia. For three hundred years, an Owens woman has paid for loving anyone outside the family, a curse laid on their ancestor Maria Owens.

To break it before Jet dies, the family leaves Massachusetts. They travel to Paris, then London, then the English countryside, where Maria first practiced her craft in the 1680s. There they search for a book that can undo the spell, following clues that lead back through their own bloodline and into new danger.

The fourth and final novel in the Practical Magic series closes the Owens saga with a full cast of witches across three generations. Pace here is unhurried, mood mysterious and atmospheric, more interested in what each character will sacrifice for love than in a quick resolution. Old wounds resurface alongside new romances, and the ending arrives only after the family retraces where its curse began.
