Synopsis

This history details the only successful slave revolt in history, which took place in Saint-Domingue (modern-day Haiti) starting in 1791. The enslaved population rose up against their French colonizers, fighting off local whites, French monarchy soldiers, Spanish invaders, and even British and Napoleonic forces. It's the story of how the oppressed became the liberators, forging a new nation against incredible odds.
