Synopsis

Daisy Shoemaker cannot sleep. She runs a successful cooking business, volunteers on a full calendar and lives in a handsome house in the Philadelphia suburbs. Her teenage daughter is difficult, her husband is often distant, her work sometimes feels trivial, and she has plenty of acquaintances but no close friends.

While Daisy looks for the cause of her restlessness, emails start arriving in her inbox meant for someone else. Diana Starling has an address that differs from Daisy's by a single punctuation mark. Daisy spends her days on carpools and dinners. Diana chairs meetings and plans the reorganization of corporations, living a polished, single life that looks nothing like Daisy's.

An apology for the mix-up leads to an invitation, and the two women meet and become friends. As they grow closer, it becomes clear that the connection was no accident. Who Diana really is, and what she wants from Daisy, drives the book.

The story moves between the manicured Main Line of Philadelphia and the wilder Outer Cape. It is a novel of suspense and secrets with a twisty plot, told with a witty, observant voice. Friendship sits at its center, alongside the weight of the past and the question of what comes next.
