Synopsis

The Newtons spend every summer in their Nantucket house, three months of sunshine, cookouts and beach bonfires. This year Arch Newton, a prominent New York attorney, has died in a plane crash on the way home from a business trip, and his widow Beth is barely holding herself together.

Beth decides the family tradition has to continue. She also means to keep a promise Arch made before his death, so she invites Marcus, the son of Arch's last and most difficult client, to stay for the summer. Her teenage twins, Winnie and Garrett, have mixed feelings about sharing their special place with a stranger.

Nantucket, once a place of calm for the family, fills with strong feeling and unsettled passions. Marcus, Winnie and Garrett each come up against loss, first love and betrayal over the course of the season.

Then the three of them stumble on a shocking secret from Beth's past. They have to decide how to keep it from breaking apart a family that is already working hard to heal. This is a family drama set on an island in summer, with grief running underneath the beach-house routines.
