Synopsis

Georgina Fernweh waits impatiently for the tingle of magic in her fingers — the gift that has touched every woman in her family for generations. But with her eighteenth birthday looming at the end of the summer, she's begun to fear her own power will never come, even as her twin sister Mary drifts effortlessly off the ground.

On the little island of By-the-Sea, where the Fernwehs run an inn and a rare bird named Annabella has returned each year for three centuries, Georgina spends her last summer at home falling for a visiting girl named Prue, weathering literal and figurative storms, and circling a mystery that will upend everything she believed about her family. Katrina Leno's atmospheric novel — Practical Magic by way of Nova Ren Suma — is about sisterhood, first love, grief, and the many shapes magic can take.
