Civilization relies on its outcasts to operate vital generating stations deep beneath the Pacific Ocean. These 'rifters' are individuals pre-adapted to extreme stress and danger, making them uniquely suited for life on an undersea volcano. But when they uncover unexpected discoveries in the deep, these downtrodden individuals find themselves with the power to change the world, for better or worse.
