Sofia Khan

Sofia Khan is Not Obliged is the debut novel by Ayisha Malik, published in 2015. Set against the backdrop of modern London, it follows Sofia, a Muslim woman working in publishing, as she navigates dating while tasked with writing a guide to romance for her community. Her path unexpectedly crosses with Conall O'Shea, an Irish tattoo artist and neighbor whose easygoing nature contrasts with her own carefully guarded world. As they work together on the book project, their friendship deepens into something neither of them expected. Malik blends humor, warmth, and genuine cultural insight to tell a story about identity, family expectations, and finding love in unexpected places.
