This book was chosen for my book club, and I’ll be honest: I went into it thinking it was a standalone and had no idea it was part of a series. Still, the concept really surprised me.
The story leans more toward fantasy than romance, but the action scenes were incredibly well written.
That said, there were things that felt unfinished. For example, what happened to Errekus? That bitter banter with Sylina was gold (laughed so much) and really helped carry the constant moving from camp to camp. But then at the end… we just didn’t hear from him again. Is he okay after what happened to his family? He literally vanished from the narrative.
Even with those loose ends, it’s a book that completely captivated me. It actually made me want to start over from the beginning and read the series in order.
