Vanessa Sands is trying to get over her fear of the ocean while vacationing in Winter Harbor, Maine, when her older sister Justine goes cliff-diving after a family argument and washes ashore dead. Certain her sister's death was more than an accident, Vanessa teams up with her boyfriend Simon to investigate — and uncovers that Justine had been keeping secrets, that Simon's brother Caleb has gone missing, and that a series of water-related deaths along the coast are leaving male victims washed ashore with an unsettling grin.
