"I don't know. Last time I got petted, and this time I have a pretty woman in my lap, so I think it's working out okay for me."
One of my favorite lines from this book. I absolutely adored the banter between our FMC and SMC, Grim. He is my favorite character, full send.
Our book begins with our FMC Riela waking to a literal mob in her house. How she managed to stand these people, I will never understand. They made her believe her worth was only in what she could provide in exchange for goods. I completely sympathize with her, as I felt like that a lot in my youth before I realized it wasn't true.
But Silver & Blood throws you straight into the story. As soon as we are introduced to Riela, she is thrown to the wolves, quite literally. She is immediately given the task of killing a monster that attacked a huntsman in the woods, simply because she is a mage.
This is very reminiscent of Beauty and the Beast, only the two MCs are infuriating with their back and forth. Just like Belle & Beast, neither believes the other could see anything of worth in them. About 60% of the way through the book, I was internally screaming at Riela because she was being stupid.
But throughout everything, there is so much story and world building. If you want yearning? There's plenty of that. You want a magical house? That's there too. Curses, and secrets and magic; Oh my!
When I opened the book & saw that there was like 500 pages (in my ebook), I was elated. Safe to say, it did not disappoint. My only regret is that I did not get to this book sooner!
*I received this book as an eARC (albeit late). I was not paid for this review, the thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to Jessie Mihalik, publisher Avon/Harper Collins, and NetGalley for the chance to read & review this book.
