شهر العسل

Honeymoon (شهر العسل) collects short fiction by Naguib Mahfouz, the Egyptian novelist and Nobel laureate whose work chronicled the life of Cairo across the twentieth century.

In these stories, Mahfouz turns his unflinching, humane eye on ordinary Egyptians — their marriages and disappointments, their moral compromises, their yearnings and losses — often shading into the dreamlike and allegorical register of his later fiction.

Precise, ironic, and quietly philosophical, the collection reflects the concerns that run through Mahfouz's larger body of work: the pressures of a rapidly changing society, the tension between faith and doubt, and the small dramas in which whole lives are decided.
