Synopsis

This is an adapted, simplified edition of Arthur Conan Doyle's classic story "The Adventure of the Speckled Band," retold by Laura Salas Rodríguez for readers learning English or Spanish as a graded reader.

Helen Stoner comes to Sherlock Holmes in fear for her life. Her twin sister died under strange circumstances two years earlier, just before her own wedding, and now Helen faces the same forced engagement and the same unexplained sounds in the night at her stepfather's crumbling estate. Holmes and Watson travel to the house to investigate a case that turns on a locked door, a dummy bell-pull, and a ventilator that shouldn't exist.

As a graded-reader edition rather than the original text, it condenses and simplifies Doyle's language for language learners while keeping the core mystery intact.
