She Was the Quiet One
Rose Enright wins a place at Odell Academy, a prestigious boarding school in New England, and sees it as the chance of a lifetime. Her twin sister Bel, who is more vulnerable, finds the school a place of temptation and danger.
Bel falls in with a group of wild, wealthy students. They pressure her into hazing Rose, and the damage to the sisters' relationship is severe. Rose goes to her dorm mother, Sarah Donovan, for advice. Bel goes instead to Sarah's husband, Heath, a charismatic and ambitious teacher.
The question hanging over Bel's choice is whether Heath wants to help her or means to take advantage of her. Around them is a world of money, seduction and manipulation, and only one of the twins will survive to tell what happened.
This is a suspense novel set in a boarding school, built around privilege, power and ambition. It leans on twists and dark secrets, and the stakes are clear from the start: a family bond under strain, an adult with unclear motives, and a death that is promised from the outset. It follows Michele Campbell's earlier novel It's Always the Husband and is written as a stand-alone mystery.
