Synopsis

Allie is reeling: her family's beloved Gulf Coast restaurant is gone, and a highway accident has just claimed her second husband. Into that grief steps Joseph, a Vietnam veteran who has spent decades adrift, unable to make peace with the war. After he rescues a stranded mother and her children and brings them home to Florida, he returns to his own hometown — and to Allie, the childhood sweetheart he never forgot. As their old flame flickers back to life, a secret buried for forty-five years begins to surface, threatening the second chance they've found. Charles Martin weaves a story of trauma, forgiveness, and the long reach of first love.
