See How They Run
Synopsis
Rachel Howzell Hall's See How They Run is a short suspense story written for audio, running under three hours. Lauren Hudson is still mourning her fiancee when she travels to Zion National Park for her brother's wedding, held at the glamping start-up he runs with his fiancee Sadie, a woman the rest of the Hudson family has never met.
The scenery is idyllic and the family reunion is strained. As the wedding approaches, Lauren starts to notice inconsistencies in Sadie's story and becomes convinced she is hiding something. The question the book keeps open is whether Lauren is seeing a real threat or whether her own grief and trauma are distorting what she sees.
Hall keeps the cast small and the timeline tight, using the isolated desert setting and the pressure of a family gathering to sustain the tension. It is a self-contained story rather than part of any series.
