Every time I think I've found my new favorite Sarah MacLean book, I read her newest one, and find my new favorite. This one has to be in the top 3, it's that good!
It's hard to explain what makes it so good without revealing spoilers, but to me, it has everything that I want in my historical romances. Lily, the heroine, is vulnerable but courageous and Alec, our Scottish hero, is pretty amazing, willing to do anything to protect Lily.
Like all Sarah MacLean's books, it definitely brought me to tears a couple of times, but that's what I love about her books in general. This book especially hit me in the feels because one of the themes is loneliness and feeling unwanted and unloved, and I think that more people have those feelings more often than they'd care to admit, and to me, that's the mark of a really astounding book, is when those themes speak to you and resonate within you and you're reading words that maybe you've thought before or said aloud.
It's Sarah MacLean's excellent skill that perfectly captures those emotions and brings the characters to full life. (BTW, I'm merely a Sarah MacLean fan, lol) In short, if you are looking for a fantastic romance, look no further than this book!!
